    So what's the reason it is "Above all else"? And what's the reason its become a cliche? Just tonight I saw a young girl with "To Thy Own Self Be True" tattooed on the side of her waist.

    I don't see how it has become cliché, after all it has always been a self explanatory phrase quoted by Shakespeare of whom some may have been inspired by hence the young girl's tattoo. People get tattoos in most cases that have meaning and that mean something to them. Perhaps Shakespeare’s quote "to thy own self be true" has inspired the girl. By getting a tattoo does not make the girl untrue to herself.

    Ironic that it's advised by the character who really wants all his children to act as their father tells them and to lie in the pursuit of self-promotion.

    I suppose it's like all the Goths who wear exactly the same uniform and yet spew "I'm an individual" 24/7.

    Those getting (misquoted) tattoos of this are the same people who got "egg fried rice" tattoos in Chinese last year.
